One thing we found is that simple displays of information often work best, particularly when designing for a broad audience. Complex visualizations and tricky filtering mechanisms sometimes cause more problems than they bring value. Simple bars charts or just plain text lists can be more effective than—and just as powerful as—complicated visualizations.
