World Usability Day

Wirklich?

Soweit also ein kurzer Ausblick.

Storytelling Lessons

If you are picking up this book, you don't need to be told how ubiquitous mobile is, how quickly it is growing and changing, and how much it is supplanting desktop computing, and even more traditional media such as film, television, radio, papers and books. Mobile is so huge and growing so fast, that astonishing numbers from just a few years ago pale in comparison. So much so, that we won't even bother quoting any figures, as they will be quaint far before the rest of the content looses its relevance. One thing that has not yet happened is true standards of design. There are just now movements to design for mobile first, for the very good reason that in many markets your customers look at your website on mobiles more than desktops. Yet, too much design is based on older paradigms for desktop, or even for TV or print. Within mobile, too many design discussions are very narrowly focused. They pay special attention to applications on a single platform, or only to the mobile web. And almost always at the specific expense of every other platform. Certainly, almost no one discusses anything but smartphones, despite huge marketshare and vast use rates.

The sexiest thing about usability testing?

In ihrem Blog-Beitrag Usability testing is HOT schreibt Dana Chisnell über Sinn und Zweck von Usability-Tests.

bserving people using early designs can be energizing as designers and developers get a chance to see reactions to ideas. I’ve seen teams walk away with insights from observing people use their designs that they couldn’t have got any other way – and then make better designs than they’ve ever made. Close to launch, it is exciting – yes, exciting – to see a design perform as useful, usable, and desirable. I’ve been negative on usability testing and our failure of imagination regarding bringing the method up to date, lately. But there’s a lot of good to any basic usability test. In fact, I went looking for the worth, the value, the alluring in usability testing a few weeks ago when I asked on Quora, “What’s the sexiest thing about usability testing?”

Der Beitrag ist durchaus lesenswert.

Cyclic Thinking

Cyclic and Linear Thinking.

In marketing agencies, the national sport is to generate presentations using Microsoft Power Point. Marketers and account managers make Power Point presentations all the time to explain strategies and tactics to their clients. Power Point is based on a linear system: one slide after the other, you have to drive other people minds into a step-by-step thinking process. In result, it creates a very narrow view of the subject, with an introduction, a development and a conclusion. But strategies are never linear (or it’s not a strategy). Why presenting a strategy should be linear though? In this matter, the linear approach of Power Point is one of the worst contributions to the modern human mind.

Testing apps and websites on the iPad From our perspective the killer feature that the iPad 2 introduced was screen mirroring. The question was how to take full advantage of following the user’s journey in real time. And how to do this without Jail Breaking (hacking) the iPad.

Web Design Process

Wir Informationsarchitekten lieben ja Prozesse, oder? Da wird Euch vielleicht dieser Artikel hier interessieren: Following A Web Design Process.

Almost every Web designer can attest that much of their work is repetitive. We find ourselves completing the same tasks, even if slightly modified, over and over for every Web project. Following a detailed website design and development process can speed up your work and help your client understand your role in the project. This article tries to show how developing a process for Web design can organize a developer’s thoughts, speed up a project’s timeline and prepare a freelance business for growth. First of all, what exactly is a ‘process’? A Web development process is a documented outline of the steps needed to be taken from start to finish in order to complete a typical Web design project. It divides and categorizes the work and then breaks these high-level sections into tasks and resources that can be used as a road map for each project.

Guter Beitrag. Lest mal drüber, wenn Ihr Zeit habt.

IKEA Lichtpfeile

UX and Task Efficiency

Efficiency, or the amount of time an expert user takes to complete a task, can have a direct impact on the bottom line. A few seconds off a call center task can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in a year. However, what is the impact of efficiency on consumers? CogTool is a software product developed by Dr. Bonnie John’s lab at the Human Computer Interaction Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. CogTool evaluates a design with a predictive human performance model to predict the time it will take for an expert to complete a task. CogTool’s modeling procedure is based on the Keystroke-Level Model (KLM), which assigns time values to each physical and cognitive action. Actions may include reading text on a screen, moving the mouse, moving the hand from the mouse to the keyboard, and typing.

Vielleicht genau die richtige Freitagslektüre`

Team Roles

Das hier ist ein recht netter Artikel: The Creative, The Artist and The Communicator: Redefining Team Roles.

The real need for new agency models is born out of the demand to think differently. This includes being able to react to an ever-changing, hyper-speed, level playing field that is focused on providing seamless interactions with and between brands and customers, and between customers and peers. It has also become necessary to evaluate needs and deliver updates and enhancements in real-time—not scheduled releases—and help companies work through becoming comfortable with transparency and humanizing their brand. The agency’s role today is as a mentor as much as a partner or vendor, and this requires a complete lack of ego in order to help facilitate the ongoing cultivation of relationships required to keep a client relevant.

User research is an important first step in any design project. For an information architecture project, it is important to first understand a site’s content and the users’ vocabulary before conducting generative research such as card sorting. This understanding helps you to choose what items to include and the terminology to use on the cards

Ein lesenswerter Beitrag.

One-Way Mirror

Auf UXMatters bin ich über diesen sehr interessanten Artikel gestolpert: The Myth of the One-Way Mirror.

In the fields of physics, psychology, and biology, there is a phenomenon called the observer effect, which refers to how observation changes the object or person being observed. For example, taking pictures or videos of a tribal culture that has never experienced such technology introduces new concepts into the society and fundamentally changes their behavior, because this is not a natural experience they would normally encounter during their daily lives. This is a major concern for user research and focus groups that are conducted in labs with one-way mirrors. When you place people in an environment where they sense they are being observed, their behavior changes. These changes in behavior can drastically affect your ability to accurately understand how your target market feels about your product or service. In our experience, people tend to focus on positive responses and have a very difficult time being completely open and honest about their thoughts and feelings.

Also zuhause - rund ums Soffa.

Also, zurück zum iPad.

Also fast immer.

Na ja, was heisst da Schreiben?

Examples: Responsive Web Design

Das hier ist eine schöne Wochenend-Liste: 30 Creative Examples of Responsive Web Design.

Responsive web design means that the website will respond according to the medium that is being used to view it. These days websites are not only viewed on standard computer screens, but after the evolution of smartphones and tablets there’s a necessity to make websites that look good on multiple devices. In this roundup we have showcased some amazing and outstanding responsive web designs that use media queries to provide an optimal presentation on various screen sizes.

Sind wirklich einige hübsche Seiten dabei. Eine nette Anregung für den Sonntag.

Scenario-based design

Und: Design nutzt Theater – Im Acting Out, Scenario Based Design, Improvisation, Brainstorm, Wizard of Oz, Mock-Up, Personas…
